The M.S. Subbulakshmi Foundation was established in the cultural town of Varkala in 2005 with the mission of keeping the cherished memories of the great music wizard and fine human being alive for ever.True to this spirit,the Foundation organizes a number of cultural ventures and events in arenas near and dear to M.S Amma.One such programme is the one-week Festival of Music, M.S. Sangeetholsav, organized every year.In this festive event ,veterans in Carnatic Music present their concerts , enthralling the hearts of hundreds of music lovers who assemble each day at the venue of the musical feast.Another cultural forum instituted by the Foundation is the M.S. Subbulakshmi International Music Club,a cllective of music lovers, which provides a permanent platform for exhibiting and developing the musical talents of the fans of music.The music forum is materialising the dictum that music brings people together since it's embedded in all of us.Every year the Foundation celeberates its Annual Day in a grand way to commemorate the great contributions of MS Amma in a befitting manner.A major element of the event is the honour extended out to the great personalities who excelled in areas close to the heart of M.S Amma.Thus M.S Puraskars are awarded to luminaries in the fields of music,cenema,drama, journalism,visual media, social service etc.It is followed by a musical and dance performance of the students of Sree krishna natya Sangeet Academy , which took the initiative to establish the M.S. Subbulakshmi Foundation.

Madurai Shanmukhavadivu Subbulakshmi was an Indian Carnatic singer from Madurai, Tamil Nadu. She was the first musician ever to be awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour. She is the first Indian musician to receive the Ramon Magsaysay award, often considered Asia's Nobel Prize, in 1974 with the citation reading "Exacting purists acknowledge Srimati M. S. Subbulakshmi as the leading exponent of classical and semi-classical songs in the carnatic tradition of South India. She was the First Indian who performed in United Nations General Assembly in 1966.
